Monaco: Points out of reach for Daniel in Monte Carlo

"The result wasn't down to Friday and the crash I had in FP2, it was really about qualifying. If you don't get Saturdays right here, you pray for a miracle on Sunday, that something turns around. That, and not having pace … the race was only going to get turned around with a bunch of luck, so that was a tough one. I actually felt we were in a decent place after FP1, but that's obviously so early in the weekend that you can't get too excited.

"In my head I always wanted to go from extreme (wet tyres) to slick (tyres) on Sunday, I knew the inter (intermediate tyre) would be quicker for a few laps but I felt maybe doing one less pit stop would have been good. I felt like putting the slick on when I did … it was always going to be sketchy and you always wonder if you could have gone one or two laps before. I felt like I took enough risk to try to make something happen.

"Later in the race, after the red flag … as we know it's so hard to overtake here. Initially I felt quicker than (Pierre) Gasly but we were all just in traffic, and unless you full kamikaze it somewhere there's not really a move that's on, a move in dry conditions at least. He got me earlier when he was on inters and I was on the extreme.

"We're off to Baku next and while it's like Monaco in terms of the risks, it's quite a different track. I don't really know what to expect in terms of whether it suits us or not, and I'll prepare by being in the simulator next week. It's a place where I have good memories, so I'll switch the focus to Azerbaijan and try to come out a little better than here."
